Whenever I hear Sacha Baron Cohen I think of him when he played the french rival of Ricky Bobby. I think it is cool that he began writing eighteen years ago and continues to create new work. Many comedians I watch do not have this style of comedy. I like how all his work and the questions he asks is different. I hate comedians who use the similar material in all their work because that gets super boring. I love watching improvised comedy because the audience never knows what could happen next. Being unscripted allows for many things to happen. His comedy reminds me of when live talk show hosts have their staff interview people in the streets and ask them bizarre questions. It’s so funny when the people get uncomfortable because that is how people react in his interviews. I feel like if Ali g were to ask me questions I would be very uncomfortable like the other people. Especially now, people have no patience because people want questions asked quickly and to the point. I agree that his work is a perfect example of incongruity theory. Watching it I never knew what was going to happen next. I can’t believe how well he is able to stay into character and not laugh. Many people would break, and if he were to break the people being interviewed would catch on to what was happening. If I was Kobe Bryant I would be confused to why he wasn’t asking questions about basketball and how he plays. I agree that he does get truthful responses, which is really hard to get. To do this type of comedy it definitely takes a very skilled comedian. I like how he brings these big celebrities to look like normal people. On his show everyone is on the same level.

  1. I agree that a lot of comedians portray the same jokes and is now not very funny. This is why Cohen is so different with his new form of comedy when he is able to combine scripted and improvised lines to get his jokes across.

  2. I knew that Cohen looked familiar to me for some reason. I love Talladega Nights and Jean Girard (Cohen's character's name). I also agree with you that most of our laughter is caused by incongruity in his work. It is also very funny to consider the fact that the responses of those he interviews are completely truthful and honest given that the questions he asks and his motives for asking them are not.

  3. I didn't realize that it was Sacha Baren Cohen in Talladega Nights until you said that but I can see it now. I agree with you about Cohen being very skilled at what he does. It would be tough for anyone to come up with the things he says and especially to keep a straight face while doing it.

  4. It is interesting to remember that this is unscripted and improvised comedy. The rules are somewhat different. How would we feel if we knew it was scripted?
